The island of Lipari, together with its neighbouring islands Stromboli, Salina, Vulcano, Panarea, Filicudi and Alicudi, is part of the Aeolian or Lipari Islands (Italian: Isole Eolie) in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Lipari is the name of the island's municipality and main town. The island belongs to the region of Sicily in Italy and is located in the province of Messina.

Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands. It has about 8000 inhabitants. Today, the island lives mainly from tourism. The tourist infrastructure is correspondingly well-developed. The old town of Lipari is beautiful with its pretty little streets, colourful houses, bars and souvenir shops. The hilly island, consisting mainly of lava rock, offers numerous hiking opportunities and the clear sea invites you to go diving or snorkelling.
